Inground pool builders for Huntsville homes

Thinking about a pool for next summer? One call connects you with an independent pool builder that works in Huntsville and Madison County.

New inground pool and deck in a Huntsville back yard below Monte Sano A freeform inground pool with turquoise water, light coping and a tan concrete deck sits behind a brick ranch house. A cutaway at the pool edge shows the shell set into red clay soil over gray limestone rock. A magnolia and pines shade one side, the wooded ridge of Monte Sano rises behind, and a small rocket silhouette stands on the far horizon under a hot summer sun.

Who is this for?

Homeowners in Huntsville, Madison, Hampton Cove, Harvest, Meridianville and the rest of Madison County who are ready to put in an inground pool, or who want to bring an older one back to life. Some want a custom concrete pool with a spa and sun shelf. Others want a fiberglass pool in as quickly as possible, or the most swimming space for the money with a vinyl liner pool. Plenty just want a better deck and new equipment around a pool they already have.

Why do pools make sense in Huntsville?

The summers are long and hot. National Weather Service normals for Huntsville put the average July high at about 91.5°F, and snowfall averages only about 2.4 inches a year. That makes for a long swim season, especially with a heater or heat pump to stretch it into spring and fall. The same normals show about 54.3 inches of precipitation a year, with March the wettest month, which matters for how a pool and deck are built.

What's under a Huntsville back yard?

Usually red clay, and sometimes limestone. Alabama Cooperative Extension places Huntsville in the Limestone Valleys soil area, where soils formed from limestone are often deep, red and clayey, but where limestone sits near the surface on some hillsides. Extension notes that caves and sinkholes are common in these valleys, and the Geological Survey of Alabama describes much of north Alabama as karst. For a pool, that can mean wet, sticky clay in one yard and rock a few feet down in the next. A good builder looks at the site, asks about past digging nearby and plans excavation and drainage before quoting.

What does an inground pool cost?

We don't quote prices, and every yard is different. For a sense of scale, HomeAdvisor's national cost guide lists typical ranges of about $40,000 to $75,000 for vinyl liner, $55,000 to $100,000 for fiberglass and $65,000 to $120,000 for concrete pools. Those are national figures, not local quotes. Rock, access, decking, fencing, a spa and equipment can push a Huntsville project above or below them. The Madison County pool guide breaks down what drives the price.

Signs you're ready to call

  • You've picked a spot and want to know if it works
  • You're comparing pool types and want local advice
  • Your HOA needs plans before it approves a pool
  • You bought a house with a worn pool
  • Your deck is cracked, hot or holding water
  • Your pump, filter or heater is failing

Do pools need a fence in Madison County?

Yes, or an approved alternative. Madison County's Building Inspection Department applies pool barrier rules from the 2018 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code to new or altered pools more than 24 inches deep, and the barrier must be in place before the pool is filled. Pools with a lockable or powered safety cover meeting ASTM F1346 are exempt from the rest of the barrier rules. City addresses follow their own city's process, so ask the builder which applies.

Does a pool builder need a license in Alabama?

Yes, for most projects. The Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors says swimming pool construction of $5,000 or more requires a general contractor license, a far lower threshold than for other building work. Ask for the license number and look it up on the board's website before signing.

Is this a pool company?

No. Huntsville Pool Builders is a referral service. We pass your call or request to an independent pool builder that works in the Huntsville area, and that company designs, quotes and builds the pool under its own contract. See our hiring tips before you sign.
